The Center helps to improve and protect the economic security of African-Americans in the Tacoma Pierce County area by enhancing asset-building services, improving policy advocacy, and increasing leadership capacity.

Join us for the first Tacoma Black Parent Alliance meeting, Sunday Sept. 15th, at Peace Community Center to connect with other parents on topics and information relevant to supporting your family and scholar. We will be sharing updated local data about our youth and discussing strategies to expand opportunities and ensure clear pathways for success. Parents of Black youth at any Greater Tacoma area school are welcome.

National Urban League Award
Since 1968 the Tacoma Urban League has played an important role in our community with such programs as the Male Involvement Program, the Environmental Justice Camp for Girls and youth mentoring. Recently they were honored by the National Urban League with the prestige Mildred Love Award. T'wina Nobles and John Levi from TUL join TV Tacoma to share what the community can continue to expect from the Tacoma Urban League.

Tacoma Black Households Financial Report & New Empowerment Center
The African American Financial Capability Initiative highlights and tackles the structural causes and community consequences of the racial wealth gap.
Rising economic inequality and a growing racial wealth gap drives intergenerational poverty in Black communities. The racial wealth gap is the difference in asset ownership (wealth) between Black and White households.
$200,000 Grant from Northwest Area Foundation
TACOMA, WA., (December 4, 2015) – The Tacoma Urban League has received a grant of $200,000 from the Northwest Area Foundation to fund the first phase of a Community of Practice designed to build capacity to improve economic outcomes for African Americans in Tacoma-Pierce County.
