Justice
A civically engaged Tacoma is a more just Tacoma.
An historic hub for social movement, Tacoma Urban League connects people, deepens collective understanding, and mobilizes our community to advocate for justice.
From promoting voter registration to democracy training, we encourage civic participation at the local, state, and federal levels. We confront anti-Blackness, working to advance policy solutions that create equitable opportunity, while eliminating systemic barriers and discriminatory practices.
The heart and soul of the Tacoma Urban League movement are our committed members, who help fuel our work. Our community-led volunteer programs support members in learning new skills, meeting new people, and contributing to a more just Tacoma.
Together, our justice programs aim to:
Increase civic engagement among Tacoma’s African Americans and other groups who’ve been disenfranchised.
Strengthen local democracy by ensuring Black voices are heard and counted.
Support community-led auxiliary programs where members can connect and advance justice priorities.
